Dave Pollard began performing in Charlottesville, Va. in 1977. Initially performing cover material in area clubs, Dave moved to Richmond, Va. in 1980 and subsequently teamed with Barry Charlton to create the duo, Patchwork. Since then, Patchwork has performed over 3,000 shows.

In 1994, Patchwork released a 10 song CD, including 5 original songs written by Dave. In 2000, Dave released his first solo CD, “Ocracoma.” This CD earned him “Songwriter Of The Year” from VOCAL (The Virginia Organization Of Composers And Lyricists) in 2000, and “Recording Artist Of The Year” in 2001.

In 2003, Dave received honorable mention in The John Lennon Songwriting Contest for another composition, “Shattered Chains” which is included on his 2007 release, “Perfect Poetry.” In 2005, Dave was the winner of The Flat Rock Music Festival Songwriter Competition in North Carolina.

In January of 2009, Dave joined with Dale and Vickie Payne to form the acoustic trio, “Triad.” What began as a duo consisting of Dale and Dave, as the result of them working together on the Patchwork CD, soon became a trio when Vickie joined them. It was during Dave’s run with Triad that he met and befriended Jim White.

Jim, no stranger to the music scene, got his start in 1997 when he joined with local singers, Pat O’Brien and Jane Stanley, to form an acoustic cover trio called The Wrest. Dedicating themselves to their craft of tight, three-part vocal harmony, the trio caught the ear of many listeners in the Richmond area and soon found themselves in high demand. While staying true to their roots, The Wrest eventually expanded the band to include a rhythm section. From there, they would become a Richmond-area staple and a favorite of the local music scene, playing well over a thousand shows - and counting.

Dave and Jim realized instantly they had a special connection with each other, and they also shared a passion for singer-songwriter music. As a result, they decided to lend their talents to each other and form a duo. Jim and Dave, having played all the typical cover songs throughout their careers, decided they wanted to focus more on deeper cuts and songs they always wanted to play but never got the chance.

Thus, Whiskey Bizness was formed in 2015.

Today, Dave still plays periodically with Patchwork, and Jim continues to perform with The Wrest.
